Christine left school at 15 with only the Edinburgh School certificate, A’s or A star in all subjects and moved to Bath when my parent’s marriage broke down.
She signed Articles in 1972, and in 1976 became the first woman to qualify as a Chartered Accountant in Bath. At a time when women made up only 2% of the membership.
In 1986 Christine, with another, became half of the first all-female partnership in Bristol. Unfortunately, they had a substantial Practice loan and the recession started the following year with interest rates upwards of 17%. They survived when other firms went bankrupt and remained friends, in spite of a few tense moments.
Christine is now enjoying retirement, in Torquay, after an interesting and fulfilling career.
